The Sydney Leadership Model

Sam Robinson, Corporate & Government Affairs Manager, Conservation Volunteers Australia. Sydney Leadership 2004.Fostering a new spirit of leadership

Sydney Leadership is Social Leadership Australia's flagship, award-winning, leadership development program.

Established in 1999 with a vision to foster new leadership to build Australia's civic wellbeing, each year it offers an intensive, year-long learning experience for up to 35 senior and emerging leaders from across the business, government and not-for-profit sectors—people who want to make a difference in the world, from wherever they may be.

Working across sectors is fundamental to this program, because it is also a fundamental challenge for every organisation and community.

To survive and thrive in the 21st century we must adapt and discover new solutions to our most stubborn and pervasive problems. These problems have complex and often hidden causes, and involve diverse stakeholders and vested interests. Finding lasting solutions calls for a higher order of working, thinking and connection, and it requires private enterprise, government and NGOs to start working together in new ways.

This is the opportunity that Sydney Leadership provides.

Each year it brings together a diverse group of talented and motivated individuals who can share ideas, challenge each others’ views and work together to develop the insights, skills and connections which are the foundation fo effective leadership in an increasingly complex world.

Close to 400 Australian leaders have now participated in Sydney Leadership and its sister program, Queensland Leadership and joined a growing network of alumni. Many past graduates have established lasting connections which continue to provide ongoing support and development, new resources, ideas and opportunities.
