How the program is taught

A powerful approach to leadership development

Queensland Leadership will introduce you to SLA's innovative, cutting-edge leadership development model, offering new ways to tackle the challenges you face, as a leader, in increasingly complex and volatile environments.

Queensland Leadership offers intensive, highly experiential learning. It is not a theoretical course. The program provides deep learning by pushing you to look beyond the comfort of predictable answers. Many find it iis also personally transformative.

At its core, Queensland Leadership employs the Adaptive Leadership model, which distinguishes ‘technical’ problems—which can be solved by management—from ‘adaptive’ challenges— where a leadership intervention is required to make genuine progress, and where changes to values, beliefs and attitudes may be called for.

The program also involves learning in the community.

Taking you beyond your four walls

SLA offers a different learning environment and a different experience from other leadership development providers in Australia.

Many of the Queensland Leadership program days are delivered in real-life situations, in real-time—not in a classroom—firstly, because we know that the deepest learning comes from experience and secondly, because we also know that many of the challenges that leaders face today lie beyond the four walls of their office—as do the answers.

By immersing the group in a diversity of challenging community environments such as prisons, schools, Aboriginal communities and public housing estates, we bring participants face to face with the reality of the complex issues facing Queensland, creating a space to explore the dynamics and intricacies that characterise the work of modern leadership.

A supporting learning environment

SLA's approch to learning is intellectually challenging but also emotionally rich. It is provocative and confronting but also caring. It builds renewed purpose and resilience, and develops the wide range of knowledge and skills required for the difficult, risky and uncertain work of leadership. It also helps connect us to a deeper purpose that leads to a greater awareness and understanding of ourselves and the environments we are leading.
