New Director for SLA
The Head of Social Leadership Australia, Robbie Macpherson, has announced he will be leaving his role at the end of the year.
Robbie started with The Benevolent Society eleven years ago as one of the program directors for Sydney Leadership and became Head of Social Leadership Australia (SLA) in 2006. Since then he has overseen the growth and expansion of the centre from a single program for 30 leaders to a thriving social business which consults on adaptive issues and delivers dozens of customised and open enrolment leadership programs each year. SLA now works with hundreds of people who are interested in making positive change in their world across the business, government and not-for-profit sectors.
“The decision to leave has not been an easy one to make,” said Robbie.
“My belief in the work of SLA and The Benevolent Society is completely undiminished. I have enjoyed the most incredibly challenging, stimulating and rewarding decade or so, and have had the privilege of working alongside an incredible group of committed, skilled colleagues.
“I have decided to move on, however, because I believe it is the right thing for me and my family. After eleven years, it’s time for some personal renewal and to explore new things. I also think it will allow SLA to continue to prosper and grow in its work and I know that I leave SLA in good hands.”
Social Leadership Australia’s Senior Manager, Development, Geoff Aigner, has been appointed as acting Director of the centre.
Geoff has had a significant leadership role with the SLA team for nearly three years, and is well positioned to lead SLA.
Geoff joined SLA in 2007 after several years pro bono work with the team. In his two and a half years as Senior Manager of Development, Geoff has developed SLA’s new consulting service; expanded relationships with a range of government, corporate and community sector partners; launched the Queensland Leadership program; written a book and, together with Liz Skelton, developed and delivered a new suite of programs introducing SLA’s leadership model to other teachers of leadership from across the country.

Robbie will continue to remain a valued associate of SLA, teaching and facilitating on its open and customised programs.
